Example: five YouTube Shorts captions for a gifted product

We ran the generator above once on October 14, 2026 with the input below and copied what came back without editing it. The notes under each result are ours.

The video
Unboxing a refillable deodorant the brand sent me for free. The case is aluminium, refills are sold separately, and I swap the refill on camera in one click.
Platform and tone
YouTube Shorts, Casual
Paid or gifted
Yes (adds #ad)
  1. #ad Anyone else switch to refillable deodorant? Mine came in an aluminium case and I swapped the refill on camera in one click. #refillable #deodorant #zerowaste #shorts170 characters. Our pick. It opens on a question a viewer can answer in the comments, and every fact in it is one we typed.
  2. #ad Got this refillable deodorant sent to me for free. The case is aluminium and refills are sold separately. #unboxing #deodorant #aluminium #shorts150 characters. Only our facts: gifted, aluminium case, refills sold separately. The plainest of the five, and fine for a viewer deciding whether to buy refills.
  3. #ad Quick tip: the refill swap is one click, so you don't have to dig around to restock. #refillable #lifehack #deodorant #shorts130 characters. "So you don't have to dig around to restock" is the model's idea, not something we said. Keep it only if it's true for you.
  4. #ad First reaction: the aluminium case feels solid in the hand. Watch me swap the refill in one click. #firstimpression #deodorant #refill #shorts147 characters. "Feels solid in the hand" is a judgement we never typed. Cut it unless you'd say it yourself.
  5. #ad Refills are sold separately, so here's the case and the swap in one short clip. #refillable #productreview #deodorant #shorts130 characters. Accurate, but it leads with the least interesting fact.

Generated by this tool on October 14, 2026 (Claude Haiku through fal.ai), unedited. A new run gives different results.

Two of the five add something we didn't say, which is why the page asks you to read every line before you post. The tags need a look too: #zerowaste on the first caption is a claim about the product that we never made, so we'd drop it.

What changes between TikTok, Instagram and Shorts captions?

The generator writes to a different length for each platform, and each platform has its own rule worth knowing before you post. The rules below are from each platform's own help page, read October 14, 2026.

What the generator writes, and the platform rule that applies
PlatformWhat you getRule from the platform's own page
TikTok1 to 2 sentences, under 150 characters, then 3 to 5 hashtagsPromoting a brand or product means turning on the content disclosure setting (TikTok Help Center).
Instagram Reels2 to 4 sentences, sometimes with a line break, then 3 to 5 hashtagsNo more than 5 hashtags on a post (Instagram Help Center).
YouTube Shorts1 to 2 sentences, under 150 characters, then 3 to 5 hashtagsUp to three hashtags show by the title; more than 60 and all are ignored (YouTube Help).

For more on one platform, the TikTok caption page covers TikTok search and the disclosure labels, and the Instagram caption page covers the five-hashtag limit and the paid partnership label.

Where should #ad go in a caption?

First, before anything else. The FTC's Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers (dated November 2019, read October 14, 2026) says disclosures are likely to be missed when they appear “anywhere that requires a person to click MORE”, and tells creators not to mix a disclosure into a group of hashtags. That's why the generator puts #ad at the very start of each caption and never in the hashtag line.

The same guide says that for a video, the disclosure should be in the video itself and not only in the description, and that a platform's disclosure tool may not be enough on its own. So say it on camera or put it on screen too, and still turn on the platform's label.

How to use Caption generator

  1. 1

    Describe the video

One or two sentences on what happens in it, with any detail you want in the caption: the product, the price, the result you got.

  2. 2

    Pick the platform and tone

TikTok and Shorts captions are one or two sentences under 150 characters before the hashtags; Instagram ones run two to four sentences. Add a call to action like "link in bio" if you have one.

  3. 3

Mark it if it's an ad

If you were paid or sent the product, tick the box so every caption starts with #ad. Read all five and keep the one with nothing in it you didn't say.

FAQ

Caption generator FAQ

Is this a caption generator for subtitles?

No, it writes the post caption: the text under your video. To put word-by-word subtitles on the video itself, use the free video caption generator, which transcribes it in your browser.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up. Each visitor gets 20 free generations a day, shared across the site's AI tools.

How long can a caption be?

Meta's developer documentation gives Instagram a 2,200-character maximum, and TikTok's posting API takes 2,200 UTF-16 characters (both read October 14, 2026). TikTok's help pages don't state the in-app limit. The generator writes far shorter captions than either.

Do I need #ad in a caption?

In the US, if a brand paid you or sent you the product, the FTC's Disclosures 101 guide (read October 14, 2026) says to disclose it in the video itself as well as the text, and not to hide it among hashtags. Turn on the platform's paid partnership label too.

What happens to what I type?

It goes through our server and fal.ai (its OpenRouter router) to Anthropic's Claude Haiku, which writes the captions. UGCLive doesn't store it, and fal's and Anthropic's own terms apply to it. Don't type anything you wouldn't post.
