How long can a TikTok video be?
It depends on how you post. On the recording screen in the app you choose 15 seconds, 60 seconds, 10 minutes before you start. Uploads from your camera roll or a computer can run longer, but TikTok sets the maximum for each account instead of publishing one number: its posting API reports a per-creator limit, and the upload screen tells you yours.
Apps that post or schedule for you, through TikTok's Content Posting API, can send videos up to 10 minutes and 4 GB. Length isn't the goal for UGC ads, though: most hooks have to land in the first few seconds.
Horizontal and square videos on TikTok
TikTok plays a 16:9 or 1:1 video with bars around it, so it fills a fraction of the screen. To fill it, crop to 9:16. A 16:9 clip cropped to 9:16 keeps about a third of its width, so frame the subject in the middle when you film. The crop preview above shows the exact share for any shape, and you can drop your own clip in to see it.
Posting the same video to Instagram or YouTube? Both use the same 1080×1920 frame: see the Instagram Reels dimensions and YouTube Shorts dimensions pages.
