Is CapCut safe to use?
Whether CapCut is safe comes down to three questions: who runs it in the US now, what it collects from you, and what it may do with the videos you edit. Here is each answer from the law, the executive orders, CapCut's own policy and its App Store listing.
Updated . Outside prices and features are read from each company's own pages on the dates shown with them.
CapCut is legal in the US and, by its own App Store label, collects about what other ad-supported editors do.
Since January 2026 its US privacy policy and terms name TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC as the operator, the company set up to satisfy the 2024 law, in which ByteDance keeps 19.9%. What to weigh is what it collects and the licence it takes: its App Store label lists identifiers used to track you across other companies' apps, and its terms give it a perpetual, sublicensable licence to what you upload. For a client's unreleased product footage, read that licence first.

Two lines in the policy answer the usual worries. Face and body information is used for effects, recommendations and moderation, “We do not use any face or body information to identify you”, and it is deleted once the effect is applied. And the policy lets CapCut use what it collects to “train, test, and improve technology, such as machine learning models” CapCut privacy policy.
Does CapCut own the videos you edit?
For your own videos that is the same kind of licence most social apps take. It matters more for UGC work: a brand's contract may say you can't share unreleased product footage with third parties, and uploading it to an editor that takes a sublicensable licence can conflict with that. The terms also ask you to waive approval of marketing that uses your content CapCut terms. If a brief has a confidentiality clause, ask the brand, or edit in an app whose terms you've checked.
