Descript has a free plan with 60 media minutes a month and a watermark. Paid plans start with Hobbyist at $24 a month, or $16 a month billed yearly, which removes the watermark and gives 10 hours of media and 400 AI credits a month. Creator and Business add more hours, 4K and a team.

What does each Descript plan include?
Since late 2025 Descript sells two allowances instead of transcription hours: media minutes for the audio and video you bring in, and AI credits for tools like Remove filler words, Studio Sound and Eye Contact. The pricing page's switch says yearly billing saves up to 35%; the yearly totals below are the per-month price times 12.

How many 30-second UGC ads does each Descript plan cover?
A 30-second ad rarely starts as 30 seconds of footage. The table assumes two to five minutes of raw video per ad, counting the takes you throw away; use your own number if you know it. If every minute you import counts against your media minutes (Descript's help page on media minutes explains what counts), each plan covers roughly this many ads a month:

AI credits run out separately. Remove filler words, Studio Sound and every Underlord message spend them, so a plan with minutes left can still run short of credits. Neither allowance rolls over to the next month.
Is Descript cheaper monthly or yearly?
Pick a plan and how many months you expect to use it. Descript bills per person, so multiply by the number of editors.

Yearly is $96.00 cheaper over 12 months. A year up front costs the same as about 8 months of monthly billing, so yearly only pays off if you keep it at least that long.
What does Descript's free plan allow?
60 media minutes a month, 100 AI credits once, 720p export with a watermark, 5 GB storage. Remove filler words, Studio Sound, Eye Contact and the other AI tools are marked “Limited” on Free, so it works for trying the editor on one recording, not for publishing. Descript
What else should you know before paying?
Media minutes and AI credits replaced transcription hours and per-tool allowances. Legacy plans moved to the new plans on their first billing date after November 17, 2025, and Descript warned some prices could go up.

How do you cancel Descript, and can you get a refund?
Desktop app or web
- Open Settings (Cmd or Ctrl + comma).
- Open Plan, then Change plan.
- Choose Downgrade to Free, pick a reason (required), then Cancel subscription.
The plan runs to the end of the billing cycle, then becomes Free. Projects stay; top-up balances stay but can't be used on Free.

Plan refunds within 48 hours of the invoice date, editor seats within 7 days; top-ups aren't refundable and there are no prorated refunds on a cancel or downgrade. Descript help
Is Descript worth it for UGC creators?
It is if you edit at a computer. Descript's transcript editing, filler word removal and word-gap shortening are built for talking-head footage, and at five minutes of footage per ad Hobbyist's 10 hours cover 120 ads a month. Descript doesn't run on phones, so every take has to move to a Mac or PC first. If you'd rather edit in a browser, VEED's plans include filler and silence removal from Creator up.
