Descript alternatives for UGC video

Descript alternatives for creators who record short talking-head ads on a phone, since Descript itself runs only on a computer or in a desktop browser.

Updated . Outside prices and features are read from each company's own pages on the dates shown with them.

Short answer

Descript has no phone app, so the right alternative depends on where you edit. On an iPhone, our pick is InShot: its AI Cut removes silences, filler words and breaths, and Pro costs $19.99 a year in the US, the cheapest subscription of any phone app here that lists filler removal (VN does it pay as you go, in credits). If you stay on a computer, Riverside and Adobe Premiere both edit by transcript, and Premiere's iPhone app is free. For long recordings edited at a desk, Descript itself is still the most complete.

Each app's own pricing page, help center or App Store listing, read on October 14, 2026. We didn't run the same clip through every app.

Which plan do you need for filler word removal in each app?

Filler cutting is the Descript feature people most want to replace, and every app puts it on a different plan. This is where each one says it lives.

The features are described differently and we haven't timed them on one clip, so read this as where to look, not a ranking of cut quality. The full feature table for these apps is on the comparison hub. InShot and VN are weighed against CapCut on our CapCut alternatives page, and VEED's browser rivals on the VEED comparison.

What if you want to stay on a computer?

Then look at editors that also work from a transcript. These are the ones whose own pages say so:

Computer editors with transcript editing or silence cutting, checked October 14, 2026
AppWhat it offersPrice (US)Phone app
RiversideUnlimited text-based editing; remove silences and filler words on Pro and up RiversidePro $35/mo or $24/mo yearly (its FAQ says $29 monthly)Yes, free to record at 720p; Mobile Plus $9.99/mo Riverside

KapwingSmart Cut removes silences, on Pro and up KapwingPro $24/mo or $16/mo yearlyBrowser only

Riverside's pricing page disagrees with itself: the cards show Pro at $35 a month, while its FAQ says yearly billing takes Pro “from $29 to $24”. Check the checkout before relying on either.

What does Descript do that phone apps don't?

Descript edits video by editing its transcript: delete a sentence in the text and it's gone from the timeline. It adds Studio Sound, Eye Contact, multi-person projects, and a teleprompter built into its recorder Descript help. No phone app here edits by transcript.

The cost of that is the workflow. Descript runs on Mac, Windows and Chromium browsers and isn't supported on phones or tablets Descript help, so footage shot on an iPhone has to be moved to a computer first. Its plans and allowances are on the Descript plans and limits page; the Captions app has its own Captions app plans and limits page. Our own iPhone editor, UGCLive, is being built to cut pauses, filler words and retakes on the phone, with no transcript editing; it isn't released yet.

What would settle which app cuts best?

A filler-heavy test clip run through each app, with the cuts counted. We haven't done that, so this page can tell you where the feature lives and what it costs, not which one removes the most filler words or makes the fewest bad cuts.

FAQ

Descript alternatives for UGC video FAQ

Is there a Descript app for iPhone?

No. Descript runs on Mac, Windows and in Chromium browsers, and says it isn't supported on phones or tablets. To edit on an iPhone you need a different app.

Which apps remove filler words like Descript?

On a phone: InShot (AI Cut), VN (in its cloud captioning mode) and Captions (AI Trim, or AI Edit on Max). On a computer: Riverside, Adobe Premiere's filler-word detection, VEED and Kapwing's Smart Cut for silences.

When is Descript the better choice?

For long recordings edited at a desk: podcasts, interviews, tutorials. Editing by transcript, Studio Sound and multi-person projects are what it's built for, and no phone app here edits by transcript.
